Karl was born in Germany. He immigrated to Canada with his parents and younger brother in 1955, at the age of seven. He grew up in Leamington Ontario.

Karl attended and graduated from the University of Windsor with a degree in Political Science and Economics, in 1970. Karl graduated with Honours from Osgood Hall Law School, at York University in 1973.

Upon graduating Law School, Karl moved to Brantford in June 1973, to be an articling student with the law firm of Ballachey Moore. He remains with that law firm and is now the senior partner.

Karl has 38 years of trial and settlement experience in a broad range of civil litigation, which includes personal injury claims (motor vehicle accidents, slips and falls) professional negligence claims, including claims against doctors, lawyers etc., claims directly against insurance companies for LTD claims and accident benefits (as a result of motor vehicle accidents), employment law including representing both employees and employers, estate litigation and various commercial disputes.

Karl has appeared at all levels of court, primarily the Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Appeal, and on two occasions the Supreme Court of Canada. Most of Karl's litigation comes from referrals from other lawyers.

When Karl is not at the office he enjoys reading, curling, travelling the world, and walking his chocolate lab, Auggie.
